The short answer? Yes. The not so short answer? Absolutely!
It doesn't matter if this is your first baby or you 5th. It doesn't matter if you've had a complicated or pregnancy or a simple one. Investing in a postpartum plan is an investment in you. It's creating a plan for your self-care and beyond that, it's acknowledging how this new life is about to change everything you now know as normal.
More than likely you've thought about how you're going to feed baby and where but have you created a plan and assigned jobs for feeding when you aren't around. Or how your partner is going to feed baby and when?
What about diapering? Or sleep schedules for you and your partner? Creating a postpartum plan takes everything and everyone into account so that you aren't stressed out when faced with these decisions right after the baby comes home. It's easy to pass it off as tomorrow's problems but the last thing you want to think about after coming home is dishes and laundry.
Even family visits can be a hassle when you first come home. Why not write out a plan for what comfortable for you. Got an Aunt you don't care for so much but wants to see the baby? Have her bring her famous casserole when she comes and assign her the job of dishes. You can even coordinate schedules before baby is born to make sure everything goes smoothly and you're not overwhelmed.
When you create a postpartum plan you get to ask yourself what you truly want for you and baby in your recovery period and you create a way for your team to actually support you. It's hard communicating our needs to our team, even more so when you're on a hormone high from labor. Take the guesswork out of it.
